I'm that kind of mom

I never thought I'd be THAT kind of mom. The meddling kind, the kind that wants to know where their kids are at all times, the kind who makes you at least try some of your veggies and the kind who wants to choose their kid's friends. I know you can't always help who you bond with. Now that Aaron is in school and finishing up first grade I find myself "guiding" him on who might be a good friend to have. His best friend, Grant was in his kindergarten class and is in his 1st grade class. Grant is the kind of kid you want your child to be friends with. Polite, clean, has a good family, smart and well-behaved in school are just some of the qualities Grant has. The best part is Grant and Aaron get along so well!! Then....there's a boy in his class who isn't so well-behaved and is in trouble a lot. Back when Aaron was having his birthday party at the bowling alley he asked about inviting this boy. I, in a round-about way, told him no. I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing by discouraging the friendship. Maybe I should let Aaron learn on his own that this boy might not be a good influence. There's so many choices you make as a parent. I just hope my choices are the right ones....

It's 81 degrees in my house

Wow....what an April it's been already. On Easter which was April 4th we had a high of 83. I had bought the girls dresses with little shrugs that go over them. No need for those cute purple shrugs! LOL! We've had 2 days at 87 and today was supposed to reach 85. Feels like we skipped right over spring and went to summer.

So I am pretty happy with Doug today. We got tax money back and he bought a flat screen TV for our bedroom. That was his toy. With the wall mount and the wires needed I think he spent about $700. He got a good deal at best Buy. Anyway so he asked me today if there was anything I wanted. I about died. Seriously?? I told him that I would like to take the Zumba instructor training coming to St. Louis in May. It only comes every few months. So he said sure!! I am so pumped!! At first when I was just starting this fitness instructor adventure he was so against it. I told him how popular Zumba was and that I had about 4 or 5 friends who are dying to take it. So it looks like I'm going to be able to do it!!

Can I just get dentures?

Seriously?! I need another crown. I already have one on the very back molar on the bottom. The one in front of it has now broken off and there is a big chunk missing. I went to the dentist today to see if she can fill it but she said it is really too weak to try and fill. Dang! The bad thing is Doug and I just got dental insurance after not having it for a year on October 15 2009. It has a waiting period of 12 months for major procedures like crowns and root canals. Sooooo that means I have to wait 6 more months to get it done. Meanwhile my dentist said that I should try to really keep the tooth clean and baby it so it doesnt get any worse. I seriously think dentures would just be easier.

Funny thing is, I never had tooth issues before having kids. After Aaron was born I had 6 cavities. Then I was good for awhile and got pregnant with Anna and got more cavities. After Anna was born was when I had to get the first crown. Cost me about $400 out of pocket. Now I had Emily about 19 months ago and here I am needing another crown. At the rate I'm going if I had another kid I better just get dentures.....

Anna

I'm not sure what to do about Anna most days. I guess her little "personality" is to be kind of aggressive, loud and opinionated but I can't seem to get her under control most days. Today for instance, Emma the girl I babysit for comes over and one of the first things Anna does when they start playing is to take Emma's toy away and tell her "no no you bad boy!" That's not even the worst of it. She's already pushed Emma today, pulled my son Aaron's hair and spit at me. I put her in her room a lot for time outs, swat her behind and take her favorite blanket away for a bit to try and teach her that her behavior is not appropriate. I've had her throw things at me in the grocery store and yell "no" at total strangers who try and talk to her. Everyone says it's a stage and she'll grow out of it. Well she's been this way since about 16 months old and she hasn't changed yet. I guess I was spoiled with Aaron. He's seven and even the threat of taking his Wii away for a day or going to bed early gets him to stop misbehaving. He's pretty much perfectly well behaved in school and I have never gotten a note home. I have a feeling it's going to be a different story with Miss Anna.....

I'm a working woman!

Woo hoo!! I finally got a job doing my fitness training. I am going to be a water aerobics instructor at the YMCA in O'Fallon. It's a good 20 min drive and its only one class on Thursday nights but its a good start!! I'm excited! The lady who hired me said if other classes came open I could pick up more classes. I am thinking of asking her to start up a prenatal water class. I know I would have loved something like that when I was pregnant. The ultimate goal here is to make enough to quit babysitting and do what I love which is helping others become healthy and fit!

Manic Monday

Oh yes....it's just another Manic Monday!

My day started off well. The girls slept in a little since neither of them fell asleep until after 10pm. I still had to get up early to get Aaron on the bus at 7:05am. He didn't want to go to school and was whining about that. Hey if i was a 7 year old that had to get up at 6:30 to catch a bus to school I'd be unhappy too! For some reason the school district thinks that elementary school children learn better earlier in the day. Um...they have never met my elementary school child. LOL!!

I then went to StrollerFit where I am the new sub instructor. I am doing my training right now with the primary instructor, Theri. We worked out for an hour then headed home. The first thing Anna did when we got home was to get into my pantry in the kitchen and start sucking on the bottle of syrup! Yuk! Lunch consisted of the usual picking at food and then throwing it on the floor. Emily got cheese in her hair. It's kind of cute except for the cheddar stench to her head. LOL!

Aaron is home now and tells me of how a boy in his class who we hear a lot about (and not in a good way) decided to fight with the principal, Ms. Hill and got suspended. Yikes! I just prayed to God right there, thanking him that my son is a good boy and is well-behaved. Now we're just getting ready to start dinner and Aaron has a soccer game at 6:50pm. It's his last indoor soccer game. He's up to 9 goals for the season. Maybe tonight he'll make it an even 10. I'll give him a Snickers before the game starts....maybe a little Pepsi too. Hehe!
